C027 The Celebration of the life and work of Dorothy Day, Christian Activist
At the heart of who we are, as that part of the Jesus Movement that we call The Episcopal Church, is reaching out to those in need. By our Baptismal Covenant we promise to "seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving [our] neighbor as [ourselves]." We promise to "strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being." Acting on her faith, Dorothy Day provides for us a contemporary example of Christian witness and life, responding to the challenges she encountered, that should resonate with our own promises and encourage us to answer the challenges that we face.
